Manual For Life: The Brandon Style Edit

The Drain Pipe jean has reached cult status over the years, made popular by rockers in the ’60s and the punks through the ’70s... but its origins go back as far as the 17th Century… Men’s breeches, the aristocratic grandfather of the drainpipe jean were very popular among French royalty and like many fashion trends, began to spread across other parts of Europe including the UK. During the 1800’s they resurfaced as a mark of rebellion during the French Revolution in the form of a ‘pantaloon’.

Fast forward over a century and slim jeans came into their own during the ‘Beatnik’ era in the 1950s.

Decades on the drainpipe jean is cemented as a counterculture, wardrobe essential in any guy's wardrobe. The fitted cut allows for freedom of movement and an array of styles to pick from.

The Pioneer's Favourite

Our grey Brandon’s are a favourite of our pioneers. The neutral shade is easy to style as they go with almost anything. We have worked with ISKO denim, one of the world's leading brands in sustainability, to produce a lighter weight 12oz raw denim. Paring back some of the details to give the jean a classic 5 pocket style with subtle features including a contrast overlock stitch and an &SONS suede back patch with branded ident.

The Brandon is a slim leg, with a slight taper and worn on the hips. The cord will gently fade creating subtle shades in heavily worn areas. For a striking but balanced look pair them with strong colours on your top half.

"Brandon jeans fit like a glove, just as I hoped. Another &SONS classic!"

Fortune Favours the Bold

The Brandon Ecru Jean is your everyday denim; worn in and worn out, this is the garment for every occasion. Icons of style such as Marlon Brando and Elvis were known for favouring tighter-fitting trousers. Through the ’70s and ’80s, the drainpipe jean was kept simple by most brands, paving the way for personalisation as we reached the height of anarchy in the era of punk.

Ecru is a much lighter colour than traditional blue denim, but it’s surprisingly easy to style and perfect for Spring and Summer too. Choosing darker colours on top will help balance the tones—opt for our crafter chore jacket or the denim Sunday shirt!

Rugged Finery

Gone are the days of garish coloured cords worn by quirky University professors. The 70s style is back with a modern twist, and cords have become a great way to experiment with new fabrics and colours.

Style with a simple white T and a denim shirt with a few turn-ups and you have a summer look that never fails. If you want to keep it classic, introduce your favourite vintage leather jacket and work boots.
